Hello
my name is Kimberly Carr. I received my undergraduate degree in
Elementary/Early Childhood Education from Alabama A&M University. My
husband is in the military and we recently moved from Italy and are now
stationed at Ft. Bragg (Fayetteville),
North Carolina. Administration and Supervision is the degree that I am in the
process of completing. It is very difficult for me to get a teaching position
or have a career, because we move every 3-4 years Currently, I am a substitute
teacher with Cumberland County Schools here in Fayetteville. I am hoping to
gain a teaching position either during this school year or next school year. After
which, I will be able to utilize my M.Ed. I never question God about not being
able to get my career off the ground. My plans are not his plans. I’m reminded
that in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper
you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
My husband and I have two beautiful children,
Lillian, 13, is an upcoming 8th grader, and Lance, 11, and is an upcoming 6th
grader. While traveling is a big part of our lives, we also get in good
quality time as a family. I also enjoy reading, cooking, and volunteering at my
children's schools and within the community. I am chairperson of Delta Academy,
a youth initiative within my sorority, that mentors young girls.
I am looking forward to broadening my knowledge and successful strategies used
for diversity in the classroom and leadership positions. Also, I am excited
about collaborating with my classmates on developing a technology plan.
If
I were a movie star, I would be Angela Bassett. She’s smart, witty, determined,
and beautiful.
Kimberly,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all let me say thank you for your service as a military family. Truly it is a team effort. My oldest son (age 23) is in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego California. .By the grace of God he was deployed to Afghanistan and the Lord returned him home safely so I do have some understanding of having someone in your family in the armed forces. The scripture you selected is one of my favorites also. Jeremiah 29:11 takes more than just intellectual understanding it is definitely a faith walk in the Sovereignty of God Almighty. I will genuinely be in prayer for you concerning your opportunity for a permanent teaching position. My wife is going into her second year as a long term sub while she’s completing her masters in special education. We hope that by the end of this school year she will be able to transition into a permanent position. This has always been our dream for both of us to become teachers and enjoy summers off with our 3 sons who are still at home. I applaud your dedication to your family. God will and I’m sure He has blessed such determination. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to move every 3 or 4 years. We’ve been in the same place (Cleveland OH) all of our lives.
Just out of curiosity I was wondering how do you plan to use your degree. The degree I’m pursuing is a M. Ed in Teacher Learning & Leadership. While I have no desire to venture into the administrative side of education I do have aspirations to teach at the collegiate level.
I like your choice of a movie star. Angela Bassett is definitely one of my favorite actresses and I have heard that she has a strong faith in Jesus Christ.
